STUDIO
Our Story
California Vintage is an off shoot of creative visionary Jheri Redding. A master of ceramics and firing techniques, Jheri experimented with some vintage ceramics decals on a glass bottle that his wife, Gabriella, had begun using in their kitchen. The result was so successful that Jheri “stole” the remaining bottles that his wife had set aside. A couple of days later, when Gabriella started asking Jheri if he had seen any of these bottles, Jheri surprised her with his gift of beautiful bottles to contain her experimental elixirs. It was soon obvious as to all the possibilities of these vessels and the great impact that it will have, especially in the field of water transportation. Jheri immediately began experimenting and creating. California Vintage contains the culmination of the best of these experiments.
Why California Vintage Designs?
With the increasing need for fresh drinkable water, especially as previous sources become contaminated through pollution and neglect, the success of the plastic water bottle has thrived. The amount of efforts that go into each plastic bottle of drinking water varies between producers. There have been numbers of incodents where producers have put ordinary, unfiltered tap water into plastic bottles of varying labels and price points and then sold by the pallette to consumers as something better than what they can get at home with a turn of a faucet. New scientific research suggests that said plastic bottles will leach cancerous contaminants into the water contained, even before reaching consumers, resulting in toxic tap water, bottled for our convenience. Aside from the direct and personal impact of the plastic water industry, there is the environmental consideration. Nations strive to eliminate dependents on petroleum and petroleum based products, yet the importation of water from across oceans has been an increasing strain on the use of petroleum. The advancements in purification tequniques are now beginning to compete with the perceived conveniences and fashion of bottled water. California Vintage Designs strives to quickly close that gap with 100% recyclable glass products that are as unique as the person using it.
Redding opened GuruGold Studios in 2008 and is known as a master in ceramic mold making and unique firing techniques of ceramic and glass objects. Each piece of California Vintage is produced at the studio and fired at an extremely high temperature, which gives lasting life to the images on the bottles. GuruGold Studios is located in the heart of Venice Beach art district.
